Five residents in General Surgery recently received the Appleseed Resident Teaching Award.

Congratulations to the General Surgery Chief Residents on your recent graduation.

General Surgery Resident Dr. Shanna Sprinkle will lead a team of Duke undergraduates in building a new educational database for Duke Surgery’s residency programs.

Congratulations to Cecilia Ong, MD, General Surgery Resident, who received the 2017 Conquer Cancer Foundation Merit Award. Established in 1995, the award recognizes high-quality abstracts and provides funding for recipients to attend the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting. The Conquer Cancer Foundation and the 2017 Scientific Program Committee provide the merit award. Dr. Ong was nominated by a colleague for being the lead author of her abstract, “A population-based analysis of treatment and outcomes in 2,500 metaplastic breast cancer patients.”

Congratulations to Dr. Brian Ezekian, General Surgery Resident, on being elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society (AΩA). Twice a year, the AΩA selects a small number of students, faculty, and alumni for membership in the society. In the spring, only three residents and fellows are elected.

Brian Gilmore, MD, General Surgery Resident, was selected as a recipient of the Postdoctoral Individual National Research Service Award (F32) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
