How to Apply

Eligibility

By the beginning date of the residency program, all applicants must have completed their residency training in an accredited general surgery program in the U.S. or Canada and have attained qualification to sit for the examination of the American Board of Surgery.

How to Apply

Positions for the Duke Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Residency Program are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), using the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS).

We only accept applications through the electronic systems ERAS. Foreign medical graduates must hold a valid, current ECFMG certificate and be eligible to obtain a North Carolina medical license (must have passed each step of the USMLE or COMLEX in three attempts or less per step to be eligible for a NC medical license).

Thoracic surgery residency applicants must have taken and passed the all parts of the appropriate medical licensure examination (USMLE or COMLEX) to be eligible for entry to any program. This applies to all graduate medical trainees, regardless of country of origin.
