Years 1-3
The first three years of training provide exposure to Plastic Surgery and the specialties with which we work. The first three years have been designed to provide an optimized exposure to aspects of General Surgery, Trauma Surgery, Breast Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Critical Care, Burn Surgery, Anesthesia, Orthopedic Surgery, Dermatology, and Emergency Medicine. We also have rotations in Hand Surgery, Oculoplastic Surgery and Head & Neck Surgery.
The first year of training includes four months on the Plastic Surgery Service. The second year includes five months on the Plastic Surgery Services and the third year of training include nine months on the Plastic Surgery Services.

Year 4
- Four months as the senior consult resident at the Durham Veterans Administration Medical Center
- Four months at Duke Raleigh Hospital with exposure to breast reconstruction, breast microsurgery, breast aesthetics, and transgender surgery
- Four months as the senior resident on the Duke North Reconstructive Service University

Year 5
- Three months in an immersive Duke hand service rotation
- Four months as the Chief resident on the Pediatric and CMF Trauma Service
- One month as the Chief resident on the Duke North Reconstructive Service
- A one-month elective rotation for residents to design a unique internal rotation, visit outside programs or global health/mission trip
- A one-month Duke Oculoplastic Surgery rotation as a senior level resident
- A two-month research experience to work on basic science or clinical research interests

Year 6
- Three months as the Chief Resident on the Duke North Reconstructive Service
- Four months rotation as the Chief Resident at the Durham Veterans Administration Medical Center
- Four months as the Chief Resident on the aesthetic service which will include a rotation to work with Dr. Rosenfeld in California.
- A one-month elective rotation for the Chief residents to design a unique internal rotation, visit outside programs or global health/mission trip
