Chief's Welcome Message

Resident Spotlight: Whitney Lane, MD

On what the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency program culture is like Dr. Lane says, "I immediately realized how collegial the residency program was. I was really delighted by the support that we provide to one another, and specifically, I think the support from both your co-residents and faculty has been absolutely amazing. One of the biggest things that I found about the plastic surgery residency here at Duke is that we have fabulous mentorship, both from your co-residents and your faculty members."

Resident Spotlight: Roger Cason, MD

On why Dr. Cason chose Duke, "When I was looking for residency programs, one of the primary things I was looking for was a program where the residents weren't just work colleagues but actually friends. I've really been able to find that here at Duke where not only are we congenial in the hospital, but also outside of work. They're people who I choose to hang out with. Many of my co-residents, I call my closest friends."

Faculty Spotlight: Kristen Rezak, MD

Dr. Rezak is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Plastic, Oral, and Maxillofacial Surgery. On the program's increasing diversity Dr. Rezak says, "There are three female plastic surgeons. We're able to bring in some mentorship that originally was not here for a lack of diversity. Now with our program being more diverse, our residents are almost 50% female, I think that helps the residents to support them and bring in some leadership that they didn't have before. We're able to build that comradery and support for the residents."

Faculty Spotlight: Alexander C. Allori, MD

Dr. Allori is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Plastic, Maxillofacial, and Oral Surgery. On soft skills development Dr. Allori says, "The program prepares our residents for the real world in leadership roles, including a background in teamwork, leadership, communication, crisis management, financial literacy, organization, productivity, and management. They really get a good survey of all the important factors that are needed to be successful in their careers."

Faculty Spotlight: Suhail Mithani, MD

Dr. Mithani is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Plastic, Maxillofacial, and Oral Surgery. On what Dr. Mithani likes best about Duke, "I think the best thing about being here is the relationships that we have, not only among ourselves, but between ourselves and our colleagues in other specialties. The relationships that we have with our colleagues in neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, and urology are almost uniformly affable and collegial."
