The Section of Colorectal Surgery is active in a variety areas of education for residents, fellows, and medical students at Duke. Our faculty are involved in the SEAL lab as well as teaching residents.

Medical students and PA students rotate through our section and actively participate in all aspects of patient care.

Residency Programs

General Surgery Residency Program

The Duke General Surgery Residency Program is dedicated to providing a comprehensive training program. This encompasses the entire breadth of core general surgery and the general surgery subspecialties which includes cardiothoracic, abdominal transplant, oncology, vascular, endocrine, colorectal, trauma and pediatric surgery. The program is led by Dr. John Migaly of the Section of Colorectal Surgery.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency Program

The Division of Plastic, Maxillofacial, and Oral Surgery offers a six-year integrated residency training program that prepares physicians to become tomorrow’s leaders of academic plastic surgery. Residents rotate through colorectal surgery as interns and during the third year.
