About the Division

The Duke Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery is a leader in surgical care, innovative research, and excellence in education related to minimally invasive surgery, including advanced laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic techniques.

Created in 2022, the Duke Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) centralizes the faculty, innovative equipment, and advanced techniques needed to advanced knowledge of the surgical specialty and to provide excellent patient care.

Comprising faculty from the former Metabolic and Weight Loss Division and faculty from Surgical Oncology and Trauma, Acute, and Critical Care Surgery, we focus on procedures that utilize the minimally invasive skill set, such as hernia repair, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) treatment, and bariatric care.

Welcome from the Chief

Jacob Greenberg, MD

One of the main goals of the Division of MIS is to create programs that will provide the best surgical care for all patients through efficiency. By combining faculty with mutual interests in applying minimally invasive techniques to treat a broader range of diseases, faculty will be able to support more patients at Duke.

We’re equally focused on developing the next generation of minimally invasive surgeons. Our Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship program is designed to expand the skills and knowledge of participants, both clinically and scientifically. Many of our alumni have become global leaders in the field of minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.

Our faculty is actively involved in research to improve patient care and outcomes.
We also have many clinical research projects focusing on outcomes and techniques for minimally invasive bariatric and general surgery.

We encourage you to contact us with any questions or comments.
