The Duke Inflammatory Breast Cancer Consortium recently participated in a community outreach event to increase awareness of inflammatory breast cancer in the local community. Dr. Gayathri Devi, Associate Professor in Surgery, Division of Surgical Sciences, and Program Director of the Duke Inflammatory Breast Cancer Consortium, and her team of researchers Holly Hough, PhD, Larisa Gearhart, and Mariana Ribeiro led an interactive dinner session at the Union Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina, on September 24.

This event had a robust attendance of over 35 women and was organized and co-sponsored by the Cancer Survivor Support Ministry (CSSM) led by Ms. Margie Scott and Women of Spirit (WOS) chaired by Ms. Gwendolyn Villines along with committee members Ms. Dara Schoffner and Ms. Pamela Purifoy. These two ministries are actively involved in Durham community in planning forums throughout the year that will motivate, educate, and inspire women.
