
Jennifer Plichta, MD, MS, has been named the E. Fulton Brylawski Associate Professor of Women’s Health in the Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Plichta is also an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Duke Division of Surgical Oncology, Section of Breast Surgery.
The professorship recognizes Dr. Plichta’s dedication to advancing women’s health research and providing all women patients with the highest level of care.
Dr. Plichta also serves as Director of the Breast Risk Assessment Clinic in the Duke Cancer Institute. Her clinical interests include establishing routine breast cancer risk assessment for women and creating personalized management strategies for those found to be “high risk.”
Dr. Plichta is passionate about community and patient education, and is the creator and primary coordinator of Duke’s free, annual community breast education day, “What’s best for breasts?”

About the E. Fulton Brylawski Professorship
Mr. E. Fulton “Bud” Brylawski established this professorship through his estate to memorialize Nancy Weaver Emerson, to promote women’s health, and to benefit the many women patients who struggle with cancer. A Duke employee and an inspiration to all, Ms. Weaver Emerson fought a 20-year battle with cancer before passing away in 2003.
