John Migaly, MD, FACS, FASCRS, Appointed Vice Chair of Education

The Duke University School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is pleased to announce that John Migaly, MD, FACS, FASCRS, assumed the role of Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Surgery in August 2021.

Dr. Migaly is an Associate Professor with tenure in the Division of Surgical Oncology and has served as the Program Director of the General Surgery Residency for the past decade. 

“There is not a person I have met with more sincere dedication to the educational mission than John Migaly,” says Allan D. Kirk, MD, PhD, David C. Sabiston, Jr. Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery. “Dr. Migaly has tirelessly dedicated himself for his entire professional career to elevating the knowledge base of students and residents through a mastery of both time-honored approaches and bold implementation of creative innovations. He is perfectly poised to take a department that is already renowned for creating superb surgeons and scientists to new heights, and in doing so, provide national leadership for academic surgery.”

New General Surgery Residency Program Director

Dr. Elisabeth Tracy,
Assistant Professor,
Division of Pediatric Surgery

Elisabeth Tracy, MD, FACS, AAP, Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Surgery, will replace Dr. Migaly as Program Director for the General Surgery Residency.

Dr. Tracy is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Surgery and has served as the Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency since 2015. While in this role, her efforts focused on improving intraoperative education and evaluation.   

"We are thrilled to have Dr. Tracy advance to this critical leadership position," says Dr. Kirk. "Her deep roots in the Duke Surgery training program will no doubt serve her well in guiding our trainees to become outstanding surgeon–scientists."
