What were you looking for in a residency program?
I wanted a residency program that offered high clinical volume, operative autonomy, and resident collegiality. Additionally, I wanted to live in a place that had much to do outside of the working environment. What I found in the Duke program was all of this and more!
What advice do you have for incoming interns?
Intern year is a challenging yet rewarding introduction to your career. Every intern has many highs and many lows, and I think it’s important to remember that everybody your year, across all programs is experiencing the same thing for the first time; you are not alone. Try to be intentional not just at work but at home. Consider the facets of your identity that you want to continue to cultivate while in residency and make sure to allocate time to those non-work parts of yourself as well.
What do you like to do outside of Duke?
Sometimes I joke that my hobby is hobbies. I love to cook and am an avid baker. I frequent cocktail bars and make a few craft cocktails of my own. I am also very involved in artistic pursuits, including painting, sketching, writing, crafting, crocheting, you name it! I love to watch movies and play video games with my husband. We have two dogs and are super into hiking. And I just adore spending time with friends and family, no matter what we are doing.
