Dr. John Creasy, Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellow, presented on the rapid growth and promising results of the Duke hepatic artery infusion (HAI) program at the Society of Surgical Oncology Advanced Cancer Therapies conference in Orlando, FL on February 15, 2020.
The presentation was titled “Implementation of a Hepatic Artery Infusion Program: Initial Patient Selection and Perioperative Outcomes of Concurrent HAI and Systemic Chemotherapy for Colorectal Liver Metastases.” Dr. Creasy’s presentation described the steps taken to create a multi-disciplinary HAI team, patient selection, perioperative outcomes, and the initial responses observed during treatment since the program’s launch in November 2018.
“We demonstrated that a new HAI program was safe and feasible, and our early results were similar to previously published reports,” says Dr. Creasy. “It was a great opportunity to discuss what we are doing here at Duke and how other centers could follow this model and help expand access to this therapy.”
