Duke Surgery would like to congratulate Catherine Staton, MD, Assistant Professor, Division of Emergency Medicine, for receiving the Global Emergency Medicine Academy (GEMA) Academic Achievement Award.
Dr. Staton’s most recent research focuses on decreasing the burden of alcohol use of injured patients in low- and middle-income countries. Dr. Staton receives funding from a Fogarty Center NIH K01 Career Development Award. She is working to create an intervention for injured patients in Moshi, Tanzania to reduce the risk of alcohol abuse.
The Society of Academic Emergency Medicine presents the award annually to one member who has made significant contributions to the subspecialty of Global Emergency Medicine. The GEMA Award recognizes Dr. Staton’s continued investigative research.
