What were you looking for in a residency program?

Excellent clinical exposure, solid and well-resourced research program, diversity of interests among residents and faculty, and happy residents.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?

All of the above.

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

Repetition and repeated exposure comes in many forms, from knots you tie to scans you look at to patients you examine to clinical decisions you make. To get better at something (really, anything), and to build experiential knowledge, you must search out repeated experiences. At Duke, they are all around you.

What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?

Has anyone mentioned how Durham is one of the most liveable cities in the United States? We're close to everything, people are friendly, there is a rich tradition of progressively-minded people and institutions, and you can see art, eat good food, and try good beer within 20 minutes of your house.

What do you like to do outside of Duke?

I like to be outside! My family has lived in Cary since 2005, so I see them quite a bit.
