What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a residency program that offered a strong clinical experience with a diverse range of complex cases. Equally important was joining a research-driven institution that provides robust support for both clinical and basic science research. Duke offered the ideal balance of both.
What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Durham is a great place to live. The city is convenient, with a wide variety of food options and plenty of outdoor activities. Additionally, the cost of living is quite reasonable, which is a nice perk.
What do you like to do outside of Duke?
Outside of medicine, my wife and I enjoy hiking with our energetic Springer Spaniel, Guinness. I also spend a good amount of time landscaping our yard, hoping to win our neighborhood's "Yard of the Month" award. And as a long-suffering Jacksonville Jaguars fan, I watch every game, even during the tough seasons (which seem to be every season).
