Linda Cendales, MD, Professor of Surgery, has been elected Vice Chair of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) Foundation Board for the 2026-2028 term. Dr. Cendales officially assumed her new position at the 2026 American Transplant Congress on Sunday, June 21, in Boston.
Dr. Cendales is an internationally recognized pioneer in hand transplant and microsurgery, recognized for her groundbreaking contributions to tissue reconstruction and hand transplantation. Her work includes participating in the first hand transplants in the United States while at Christine M. Kleinert Institute in Louisville, Ky., and establishing the first hand transplant program in North Carolina at Duke Health. She currently holds a secondary appointment in the Duke Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
The ASTS was founded in 1974, and currently represents over 2,000 transplant professionals.
