The results of the largest prospective evaluation for a genomic test in cutaneous melanoma, led by two Duke Division of Surgical Oncology faculty members, have been published in the October 2025 issue of JAMA Surgery.
The MERLIN_001 trial enrolled 1,761 patients across leading U.S. academic cancer centers, including at Duke. Georgia Beasley, MD, Associate Professor of Surgery, served as the Duke site principal investigator. Jay Lee, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery, served as sub-investigator for the trial.
The study provides quantitative guidance for clinicians regarding the clinical utility of Merlin CP-GEP testing in guiding sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) decision-making.
