What were you looking for in a residency program?

Well-rounded surgical experience, supportive co-residents and faculty, LGBTQ-friendly environment, research and leadership opportunities.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?

Amazing co-residents, dedicated night float schedule, faculty who are truly invested in our education, substantial operative experience.

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

Intern year can be exhilarating and a great chance to bond with your co-residents and other residents across specialties. Take time to rest, stay humble, and use your free time to explore Durham and take advantage of the city!

What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?

The restaurant and brewery scene is top-notch and amazing here. The cost-of-living is also really affordable and Durham is easy to get around too. There are plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the outdoors and the great arts/music scene. Additionally, there’s a significant amount of young professionals in the area and many are involved in the healthcare field.

What do you like to do outside of Duke?

Running, exploring restaurants/bars, traveling to the beach, playing tennis.
