How to Apply

One Surgical Critical Care fellow is appointed each year. Completion of at least three clinical years in an ACGME-accredited graduate educational program in the disciplines of general surgery, neurosurgery, urology, or obstetrics and gynecology is a prerequisite for admission to the program. Residents who enter the fellowship program prior to completing a residency in one of these disciplines must have a categorical residency position in their specialty available to them on satisfactory completion of the critical care fellowship.

In addition, the following materials are required to complete the application process:

  • Satisfactory completion of USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3
  • One letter of recommendation
  • Interviews with the Program Director and Surgical Critical Care Faculty

Applications should be submitted via the SCC and ACS Fellowship Application Service.

Travel and Hotel Information

We recommend flying into Raleigh-Durham International (RDU) airport. It takes about 20-30 minutes to drive from RDU to Duke University Hospital. 

Durham also has an Amtrak station if you prefer the train. The train station is located in downtown Durham, a little over two miles from Duke University Hospital.

Many hotels are located near Duke University Hospital and some offer special rates for Duke. See nearby hotels.
