Established in 2022, the Division of Community General Surgery was created as part of a merger between Duke Surgery and Central Carolina Surgery (CCS), previously an independent surgical practice based in Greensboro, NC. The collaboration began as a training partnership between the two institutions, offering Duke General Surgery residents an opportunity to gain valuable experience performing general surgery cases in a high-volume surgical practice.
Central Carolina Surgery remains one of the highest-volume surgical centers in the state of North Carolina, operating largely out of Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, the flagship health center of the Cone Health System.
The Division of Community General Surgery's mission is to serve patients in communities outside of the immediate Durham area, meeting patients where they are with the highest quality surgical care.
