
Matthew Hartwig, MD, MHS, Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, and Douglas Overbey, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Divison of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, were awarded funding for research designed to improve care for patients with advanced heart and lung disease by the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT).
Dr. Hartwig received the ISHLT Acellular Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP) Research Grant, supported by Lung Bioengineering. The research aims to develop further advancements in acellular EVLP technology.
Dr. Overbey’s grant, the ISHLT Novel Approaches for FDA Cleared Preservation Systems in Donation After Circulatory Death (DCD) Heart Transplantation Research Grant, is supported by Paragonix Technologies. He will conduct clinical research into novel techniques to expand the donor pool by making the recovery and transportation of DCD organs more cost-effective.
