Kevin Southerland, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Duke Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, was chosen as a recipient of the 2024 Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) Foundation/American College of Surgeons (ACS) Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award.
The award is directed at surgeon–scientists working in the early stages of their research careers, and helps to facilitate the career development of individuals pursuing careers in surgical research through the K08 mechanism.
The SVS Foundation, an arm of the Society for Vascular Surgery, partners with surgeons, researchers, government agencies, and other groups to provide essential support for vascular science and community outreach.
The ACS is a scientific and educational organization of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and to improve the care of the surgical patient. The College has more that 80,000 members and it is the largest organization of surgeons in the world.
