Maggie DiNome’s, MD, Professor of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, Department of Defense (DOD) grant received a recommendation for funding for her research titled "Epigenetic Signatures to Predict Pathological Nodal Stage for De-Escalation of Axillary Surgery in Patients with Clinically Node-Positive Breast Cancer."
The Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) Breakthrough Award is a grant from the DOD office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs that supports promising research with high potential to lead or make a breakthrough in breast cancer. Only 3.8% of grant applications were recommended for funding this year.
As a program, the BCRPs main objective is to foster research that addresses the "urgency of ending breast cancer and preventing overtreatment." The BCRP accomplishes this by doing the following:
- Seek to accelerate high-impact research with clinical relevance
- Encourage innovation and stimulate creativity
- Facilitate productive collaborators
