Dieter Mielke, PhD, Awarded NIH K01 Grant for HIV Vaccine Research

Dieter Mielke, PhD, Senior Research Associate in the Ferrari Lab, has been awarded a National Institutes of Health (NIH) K01 grant. His primary mentor is Wilton Williams, PhD, with co-mentors Guido Ferrari, MD, Kevin Saunders, PhD, Drew Weissman, MD, PhD (University of Pennsylvania), and Francois Villinger, DVM, PhD (MD Anderson Cancer Center).

Dr. Mielke’s project aims to advance HIV vaccine development by eliciting broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) that target conserved regions of the virus. Using a priming and boosting strategy with computationally selected immunogens, his work will investigate approaches to overcome resistance in subtype C HIV strains, which remain a major global health challenge.

The K01 Mentored Research Scientist Development Award provides support for early-career investigators to gain the skills and expertise needed to establish independent research programs.
