A new article published in The Lancet and co-authored by Lisa M. McElroy, MD, MS, Onye Akwari Assistant Professor of Surgery, discusses how policy can be a tool to advance transplantation equity.
The paper, which is the third in a series of three papers about solid organ transplantation, is titled "Policy Innovations to Advance Equity in Solid Organ Transplantation." It was co-authored by Dr. McElroy and a multinational team of researchers and transplant surgeons.
The researchers identify knowledge gaps around equity in transplantation and propose equity-oriented policy solutions in access to transplantation and patient outcomes. The policy recommendations are in areas such as data and registries, healthcare financing, and access to technology.
