What were you looking for in a residency program?

I wanted a place where I would be happy and able to make a difference in the lives of my patients. I also wanted a program that would prepare me for anything I would encounter as an attending.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?

The patient population is unique in that there are so many complex pathologies but also a good exposure to the bread and butter emergency medicine issues. Duke is full of exceptional residency programs and this gives us the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business. The entire administrative staff is very supportive and always positive, the residents are very well taken care of.

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

Find a program where the residents are happy and the attendings love their work.

What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?

We live in Raleigh, but there are so many great events around the cities. The Outer Banks is a great place as well and only a few hours away.

What do you like to do outside of Duke?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, hang out with my wife, our dog and our cats, taking naps and playing Xbox.
