Two Thoracic Surgeons Receive TSF Every Heartbeat Matters Award

Two individuals from the Duke Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery have been awarded the 2026 Every Heartbeat Matters Award from the Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF).

Adam Williams, MD, Associate Professor of Surgery, and Rebekah Boyd, MD, Thoracic Surgery Resident, were awarded the grant to support respective their work serving patients in Honduras. 

The Every Heartbeat Matters Award provides support for surgeons who conduct humanitarian work in underserved regions and populations. According to the TSF, "This award is designed to provide support for programs that educate, screen and/or treat underserved populations to reduce the global burden of heart valve disease, and to support other programs that advance health care and address underserved populations."
