Kateryna Krynychka, MD, PhD, Receives Braunwald Research Fellowship Award From TSF
Kateryna Krynychka, MD, Duke Surgery research resident, has been awarded the 2026 Nina Starr Braunwald Reserach Fellowship Award by the Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF).
Dr. Krynychka's research interest is immunosuppression after lung transplant and ways to prevent fibrosis in lung grafts. Her project is titled, "The role of Tacrolimus, TGF-b, and inflammatory/regulatory balance in CLAD development."
The Braunwald Fellowship is named for Nina Starr Braunwald, MD, who was the first woman to be certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the first woman to conduct open heart surgery. The award provides up to two years of support for a woman resident working in a cardiac surgical clinic or laboratory research program who has not yet completed cardiothoracic surgical training.
