Edward P. Chen, MD, Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, has been recognized by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) or his participation on the 2022 ACC/AHA Guideline for the Diagnosis and Management of Aortic Disease. Dr. Chen provided valuable time, attention, and dedication to the guideline development process.
The ACC/AHA clinical practice guidelines serve to provide evidence-based guidance to physicians and other healthcare providers practicing cardiovascular medicine. Moreover, these guidelines can provide a foundation for other applications, such as performance measures, appropriate use criteria, and both quality improvement and clinical decision support tools. The volunteers chosen for this initiative provide expertise and leadership at a national level, service to the cardiology community at large, and valuable time. This is an important example of exceptional academic citizenship which is highly valued.
