Adam Johnson, MD, MPH, Awarded CTSA K12 Mentored Research Grant

Adam Johnson, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, has been granted an NIH K12 Mentored Research Career Development Program Award in Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA).

His project, titled, “Development of Data-Driven, Evidence-Based Bundles of Care for Lower Extremity Revascularization in Peripheral Artery Disease,” aims to improve the management of patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) through modelling complex systems and interpretable machine learning to support clinical decision making.

“This application would not have been possible without the guidance of Dr. Lisa McElroy and the Duke Surgery Health Services Research Young Faculty Working Group,” says Dr. Johnson, who also serves as the medical director of the limb preservation program at the Durham VA.

Dr. Johnson’s mentorship group for the project includes:

  • (Primary Mentor) David Page, PhD, James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of Biostatistics & Bioinformatics
  • Leila Mureebe, MD, MPH, Professor of Surgery
  • Samantha Minc, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Surgery
  • Cynthia Rudin, PhD, Gilbert, Louis, and Edward Lehrman Distinguished Professor of Computer Science
  • Nina Sperber, PhD, Associate Professor in Population Health Sciences
