Certificate of Accomplishment in Surgical Education

The Certificate of Achievement in Surgical Education (CASE) is awarded to residents finishing their academic development time who have had significant experiences or contributions to surgical education. They must have one "major" and two "minor" experiences or accomplishments in graduate or undergraduate medical education.

Surgical Education Initiatives and Activities

Below is a list of initiatives and activities that residents can complete to receive the CASE award. Residents must accomplish one "major" and two "minors."

Major

  • Sabiston Teaching Scholar (3-6 residents per year)
  • STAR Course Director (2 residents per year)
  • Surgical Education and Simulation fellow (1 resident per year)
  • DEI fellow (1 resident per year)
  • SERF/SELF participants

Minor

  • Participate in SERG
  • Plan/coordinate Summer Education Series
  • GSIG Advisor
  • ASPIRES Advisor
  • AWS Advisor
  • GSIG Mentorship Program for MS3/4s
  • Capstone lectures
  • Residency Redesign initiatives
  • Participate/give med student lecture/panel
  • Help with med student skills sessions
  • Help with STAR didactic/skills
