Alexandra Bennion, a Duke University senior, was one of 12 Americans selected to receive the George J. Mitchell Scholarship for a year of graduate study in Ireland beginning in 2023.

Since 2020, Bennion has been conducting independent research on inflammatory breast cancer in the laboratory of Gayathri Devi, PhD, Associate Professor in Surgery and Pathology. Bennion is currently working on her senior thesis and is expected to graduate in May 2023.

Bennion recently was a co-author in an abstract presentation at the 2022 San Antonio Breast Cancer Meeting. The work is currently in submission status (1310859. Monitoring Lymphovascular Invasion and Tumor Growth of Inflammatory Breast Cancer in a Murine Lymphatic Reporter Window Chamber Model).

As her research mentor, Dr. Devi is excited for Bennion and her opportunity to study translational oncology at Trinity College Dublin.

Bennion says, "I am incredibly thankful to all of my professors, mentors, peers and all who have guided me throughout my college years."
