Clinical and Research Interests

My clinical interest is in vascular surgery. My research interests are in surgical education, vascular biology, and surgical outcomes research.

What were you looking for in a residency program?

I was seeking the opportunity to combine clinical training, involving the most complex patients and operative cases, with world-class research experience.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?

The General Surgery Program at Duke provides an unparalleled blend of research and clinical training. In addition to the case volume and case complexity expected of an institution like Duke, the program boasts faculty who are incredibly invested in teaching and mentorship. Surgical residents have the opportunity to complete a two-year research fellowship at an institution with endless opportunities for inter- and intradepartmental collaboration and innovation. Our leadership, specifically Dr. Allan Kirk and Dr. John Migaly, "walk the walk" when it comes to investing in the wellbeing and development of their residents.

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

Your time at Duke will be intense but unimaginably rewarding; you'll be working alongside some of the most diligent and talented people you can imagine , and if you give your best you'll be pushed beyond where you ever expected to go.

What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?

Durham is a wonderful place for people who like a slower pace of life with the amenities of a larger city. The town has a fantastic selection of bars and restaurants, lots of opportunities for outdoor activities, and a surprisingly good selection of entertainment through DPAC, Duke, and the Carolina Theater.

What do you like to do outside of Duke?

I like to hike, play pick-up football, and cook.
