Clinical and Research Interests

I am interested in general vascular surgery - my interests are broad, and include all aspects of diagnosis and management of arterial, venous and lymphatic disease. I am interested in clinical outcomes research in vascular surgery, and in translational research in PAD/CLI.

What were you looking for in a residency program?

I was looking for a program where faculty place an emphasis on mentoring and guiding young surgeons, and for a program that represented the broad spectrum of practice of vascular surgery (including a balanced representation of aortic pathology, peripheral arterial pathology, and venous pathology). Training at Duke Vascular takes place in many varied settings - including at a quaternary academic medical center (Duke University Hospital), at Veterans Health Administration, and at two busy community hospitals - which allows vascular surgery residents to obtain training that is incredibly broad in the spectrum of vascular pathology they will encounter.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?

The commitment of the faculty to resident education and autonomy both in the operating room, and outside of it is a significant strength of the vascular surgery program at Duke. The program is also balanced in the variety of practice settings trainees participate in - whether it is at a Veterans Health Hospital, a tertiary/quaternary referral hospital, or at diverse and busy community hospitals in the Triangle area. The faculty come from diverse backgrounds, and bring varied and thoughtful perspectives to the practice of vascular surgery.

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

To continue to learn as much as possible, despite a busy and hectic schedule, whether it is through surgical lectures and podcasts, textbooks, or journal articles.

What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?

The food options, the availability of the outdoors, and the hospitality of the South.

What do you like to do outside of Duke?

Hiking in the Eno River State Park with my husband; visiting the Sylvan Heights Bird Park.
