Dr. Julie Ann Sosa, Chief of Endocrine Surgery, was affirmed as the next Treasurer of the American Thyroid Association (ATA) at its annual meeting September 21-25 in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Sosa will spend the next year as Treasurer-Elect and the following 4 years as Treasurer. She has served as a member of the ATA Board of Directors for the last two years. The ATA has 1,500 members from around the world whose practice and research is focused in thyroidology. ATA members include endocrinologists, surgeons, pathologists, oncologists, radiologists, and researchers.
Dr. Sosa is a professor of surgery and medicine (oncology), serving as chief of Endocrine Surgery and Director of the Surgical Center for Outcomes Research (SCORES) and as leader of the Endocrine Neoplasia Diseases Group at the Duke Cancer Institute and the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI). Her clinical interest is endocrine surgery, focusing on thyroid cancer. She has authored more than 230 peer-reviewed publications and 50 book chapters and reviews on outcomes analysis, cost-effectiveness/decision analysis, meta-analysis, and survey-based methodologies, clinical trials, as well as stem cell research.
