Dr. Erica Taylor, Duke orthopaedic surgeon, was invited as a keynote speaker for the 4th annual institutional second-look weekend for underrepresented minority (URM) applicants to the core residency programs. Sponsored by the Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME), the event has been growing in interest and size and has been very successful in providing URM candidates a chance to explore Duke and Durham more thoroughly and purposefully after their initial interviews in their programs. There are a number of events over the weekend, culminating in a banquet on Saturday evening for the applicants and faculty from the respective departments. Invited personally by Dr. Catherine Kuhn, Director of the GME Office, Dr. Taylor spoke with impact and authenticity about her personal journey towards orthopaedic surgery and how her experiences at Duke influenced her along the way, from 2001 to today.
