Clinical and Research Interests

I enjoy working on projects using my engineering background to help solve issues found in modern day medicine. I will be pursuing a research fellowship involving photoacoustic imaging in hopes of furthering the field and implementing a new type of point-of-care imaging modality in the emergency department.

Emergency Medicine is fast paced and a stressful environment, not only for providers, but patients alike. I enjoy the challenge of gaining patient's trust and being able to empathize in a short period of time to help patient's better navigate the complex medical system.

Research

Biomedical technologies have advanced medicine at an incredible rate over the past century. Although technology is rapidly advancing, there exists a barrier between engineers and physicians to creating products that integrate well into clinical practice. My research interests involve biomed tech innovation especially those involved in POC diagnostics.

What were you looking for in a residency program?

I wanted a program that had the resources and the environment to advance my medical career and push the limits of modern medicine. Duke was the only program that provided an opportunity to integrate my passion for integration of medicine and engineering. With the resources and opportunities Duke EM provided I've been able to pursue my career aspirations.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?

It's incredible resources and staff.

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

Learning medicine is like making a painting; it takes layers to make a final product. Learn something small every day and eventually it will come together to make the final product.

What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?

Only a short drive to the mountains or the beach!

What do you like to do outside of Duke?

  • Rock Climbing
  • Mountain Biking
  • Trying new restaurants
  • Hanging with friends
  • River Tubing

North Carolina has it all!
