What were you looking for in a residency program?

A program with a high surgical volume and good exposure to all urologic subspecialties. In addition, I wanted for somewhere with a structured resident curriculum both for skills and education. 

What are the strengths of the Duke program?

Surgical volume, huge variety of clinical sites, dedicated research year with opportunities/resources for collaboration with other departments in the university, and a large resident cohort with great camaraderie. 

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

  • Be organized- develop a system that works for you and stick with it
  • Never worry alone- there is always someone available to help
  • Don't forget about your life outside of the hospital- make the most of your time off

What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?

  • The abundance of outdoor activities within a few minutes and the exploding food/drink/music scene

What do you like to do outside of Duke?

  • Camping, mountain biking, fishing, snowboarding, playing/watching hockey, and cooking/eating
