This two and a half day course will focus on surgical techniques for surgeons who wish to increase their knowledge of laparoscopic roux-n-y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy as a primary procedure.  This program includes dinner and round table discussions highlighting procedural steps and technical tips to perform sleeve gastrectomy combined with a full day of didactics, videos, and case observations.  The final day includes a hands-on lab for surgeons to perform both procedures with faculty assistance.  The hands-on lab will emphasize the safe and effective use of laparoscopic staplers, ultrasonic and advanced bi-polar energy devices.


At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand current clinical best practices for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and roux-n-y gastric bypass
  • Recognize patient indications for roux-n-y gastric bypass, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and gastric banding
  • Discuss preventing and management of postoperative complications after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and roux-n-y gastric bypass
  • Describe the surgical skills that are required to successfully perform laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and roux-n-y gastric bypass
  • Describe the  post-operative follow-up and nutrition required for treating sleeve gastrectomy, roux-n-y gastric bypass and gastric banding patients

Audience/Requirements for Participation

  • Currently performing 5 or more bariatric procedures per month
  • Experience performing Gastric Banding and Sleeve Gastrectomy
