Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in the field of solid organ transplantation are invited to participate in the pre-Summit meeting of the Advanced Practice Provider Bootcamp. The Duke Transplant Advanced Practice Provider Bootcamp is an intensive course that incorporates didactic and hands-on education. This educational program is designed to facilitate the APP’s role in perioperative management and improve competency in pertinent procedures. The educational goals of this course are to enhance knowledge of the following topics:

  • Pre- and post- operative care of solid organ transplant patients
  • Multiple organ transplantation
  • Immunology

The course will also include discussions on hot topics in the transplant community, including:

  • Hepatitis C + donor organs
  • Liver OrganOx normothermic perfusion pump
  • Abdominal wall transplants
  • Hand transplants
  • HOPE act organs

Registration Information

Registration fee includes tuition, breakfast and lunch. Online registration is recommended (link below), limited onsite registration may be available.

The Duke Solid Organ Transplant Summit is affordable, accessible and tailored to meet the demands of the entire care team for transplant patients including surgeons, anesthesiologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists, nephrologists, gastroenterologists, advanced practice providers, nurses and pharmacists.

  • Get updated on the latest scientific advancements around care of solid organ transplant candidates and recipients.
  • Topics include non-antibiotic management of infection in SOT, use of HCV infected organs in transplantation, the impact of physical frailty on transplant outcomes, use of organ perfusion devices to enhance organ availability and much more.
  • Learn from didactic sessions, current research, case studies, Q&A and take-home decision support tools.

  • Recognize impact of frailty on waitlist mortality and post-transplant survival

  • Better understand management of HLA results and positive crossmatches as they influence transplant outcomes

  • Recognize management strategies to enhance opportunities for transplantation of the morbidly obese patient

  • Learn how new organ allocation systems impact transplant opportunities

  • Share expert driven insights into controversial issues, emerging techniques and future directions in solid organ transplant

This program is a partnership between the Duke Department of Surgery and the Department of Medicine to facilitate the multidisciplinary adoption of new research results and practice guidelines by healthcare providers who care for solid organ transplant patients.
