The Duke Center for Surgical Education and Innovation is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary center with surgeons who are experts in their field using state-of-the-art technology. The Center is dedicated to fostering collaboration and advancing education through research and innovative techniques in minimally invasive surgery (MIS), microsurgery, and robotic surgery in many specialty areas with experienced surgeons.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery is a marriage of modern technology and surgical innovation. It has resulted in many procedures that accomplish the age old goals of surgery (diagnosis, staging, removal and repair of disease states) with small incisions and decreased psychological trauma.
Microsurgery uses high-powered microscopes to assist in performing microvascular surgical repairs involving small vessels, nerves and/or other tissues and can be applied in a wide range of surgical settings.
