Research Approach
Our laboratory is interested in understanding the immunology of urothelial carcinomas and is examining how these tumors may be manipulating the immune system into a state of paralysis.
Additionally, we are collaborating with Mark Dewhirst, DVM, PhD, and Zeljko Vujaskovic, MD, PhD, to evaluate the role of hyperthermia as a novel therapy that may not only improve the effectiveness of chemotherapy but that may also improve the immune response to urothelial tumors.

Basic Research Initiatives
In conjunction with Drs. Dewhirst and Vujaskovic, we have developed a novel way of applying hyperthermia to the murine bladder.
Using several murine urothelial tumor models, we intend to use this model to test novel hyperthermia-based treatment regimens.
Future research will evaluate the impact of heat on the immune response to urothelial tumors.
