Surgical Lectureships
Deryl Hart Lectureship
Dr. Deryl Hart graduated cum laude from Emory University, and he subsequently attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, graduating in the class of 1921. He had the unique privilege of being selected by William Stewart Halsted for the surgical residency program at Johns Hopkins. Following completion of the program, he remained on the faculty. MORE

Clarence E. Gardner Lectureship
Upon his retirement as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery in 1964, a lectureship was established in honor of Dr. Clarence E. Gardner. The Lectureship is given on a subject relating to the history of surgery. MORE

In 1969, Dr. Hunter H. Sweaney, a prominent surgeon in the Durham community, established a Lectureship in the Department of Surgery with the stipulation that the lecture be delivered by a distinguished surgeon from abroad. MORE
