For years, Duke surgeons, nurses, and staff members within the Department of Surgery have dedicated their time and energy to address health disparities around the globe.

Duke Global Surgery provides a centralized approach to the global health problems that many Duke surgeons have personally undertaken in their volunteer work. Through a partnership with the Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI), this program enables surgery faculty members at Duke to respond to world health care needs -- specifically within surgical fields -- through clinical care, research, and education.

While abroad, our teams of dedicated health care leaders serve as quintessential ambassadors for Duke Medicine by spreading the clinical expertise for which Duke is world renowned. Their work helps further the mission of the DGHI by helping to ensure that medical care reaches people in underserved areas around the world.

Whether providing direct patient care with innovative technologies, educating health care providers in the developing world, or discovering groundbreaking research, Duke Global Surgery team members make everyone on the homefront at Duke proud.
